Duvet Cover Inspiration

Our duvet cover is one that my mom made for me when I left for university. It is two sheets sewn together - one navy blue, one light blue. It has served me well for 14 (!?!?!?) years, however, after all that time the poly/cotton blend is showing its wear and there is more poly than cotton left - not so comfy or cozy.

So, I've been dreaming of making a new duvet cover with some thrifted sheets ever since I saw Amanda's version.

I have yet to find the perfect vintage cotton sheet or fabric and I've been looking for at least two years. I have found some awesome vintage cotton pillow cases however and now I'm trying to think about a design that I can make that will be a little bit quilt like, not be too much work and be sturdy enough to last another nearly 15 years. It looks like French seams will be the way to go for some piecing to ensure sturdiness.

Here are some inspiration photos:

Dreaming of Little Things . . .

like a bright cheery space like this:

This couple lost their newly renovated home to a fire and re-built two cottages on their property into a 351 square foot home. I love its brightness, efficiency and simplicity.

I am yearning for this in 2011 and putting thoughts and energy into making my way towards this.

Welcome New Year!
